My Journey
Hemp has become a massive part of my life over the last few years, I eat Hemp in some form every day, whether it’s Hemp Protein, Hemp Seeds, Hemp Oil or Hemp Milk and of course my daily dose of CBD and I have lost 9 stone (about 130lbs) in weight, over the course of about 18 months and have maintained that loss for over 3 years now, I believe Hemp and CBD has played a considerable part in both my weight loss and maintaining.
Hemp and CBD are my life’s passion, I literally live, eat and sleep, everything Hemp and CBD. It has literally changed my life and many others too.
Back in the summer of 2014, I was 9 stone, about 130lb heavier than I am today! It still amazes me daily how different I look and feel.
What inspired and bought on this change? And how did I do it? I hear you ask.
September 2014, I decided I needed to do something, I was getting heavier and heavier, no ‘diet’ seemed to work, or if it did, I put it all back on and more…something needed to change.
Being a hairdresser, at the time, I was cutting a client’s hair and I complimented her on her weight loss since her previous appointment and she told me about a local online weight loss plan she had been following so I gave it a go, it was very strict and no carbs at all for 3 weeks and then after the initial 3 weeks you gradually introduce small amount of carbs back in, but the teeniest amount, they didn’t really want us eating any carbs, well that wasn’t for me. I’m on my feet all day and I needed more energy, so I started looking up natural healthy foods that I could include in my daily diet without feeling deprived or lacking energy, and I discovered Hemp! And I haven’t looked back since.
Since then, I have included Hemp into 99% of my days, there has been the odd day I haven’t had it, but I usually have in some form every day. After a few weeks of including Hemp in my diet, I discovered that I was no longer lacking energy, I was feeling fuller for longer and I was losing weight. Bonus! I kept it up.
Not long after, I was round a friend’s house and they were vaping CBD oil and following my amazing results from eating hemp, I was intrigued. Being a smoker at the time, I wanted to give it a go. Thinking ooh maybe it might help with quitting smoking. I promptly went home and found some CBD Oil for sale online, ordered myself a bottle and a cheap vape, a couple of days later it all arrived and I got it all set up and from that day on, I have never smoked another cigarette. All desire for cigarettes went, almost immediately and I’ve never wanted one since. I still vape CBD oil, most days, to help me during anxious times but not because I want to smoke a cigarette, amazing hey?
And that was the beginning of my CBD journey…
Anyway, back to the weight loss, by Christmas of 2014, I had lost 3 stone and people were starting to notice, I was still having the daily hemp and I started to add in 10 minutes of exercise in the morning, it was doable, I mean we all have 10 minutes yeah?
The weight was continuing to come off and I was feeling so much better, in myself. About a year later, I was 9 stone lighter than I had started and was feeling the best I had ever felt, I am convinced, the Hemp and CBD played a massive part in this loss. And also, the maintaining since.
But how? Let me tell you…
The science behind CBD and weight-loss
CBD is one of over 100 compounds found in the cannabis plant and belongs to a class of ingredients called Cannabinoids.
CBD is the major non-psychoactive component of Cannabis, meaning you won’t get high from taking it.
The human body has a system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) that receives and translates signals it receives from cannabinoids in the body. The body produces some Cannabinoids on its own, which are called Endocannabinoids. The ECS helps regulate functions such as sleep, immune system responses and pain. CBD influences receptors in the body which are concerned with movement, coordination, sensory perception, emotion, memory, cognition, autonomic and endocrine functions and is also seen to reduce inflammation.
The body has an Endocannabinoid System (ECS), with two cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are in the brain and central nervous system only whilst CB2 receptors are found throughout the body.
However, CB1 receptors become more widespread in people who are overweight and can be found specifically in fatty tissue.
This has caused researchers to believe that there is a link between CB1 receptors and obesity.
CBD doesn’t directly activate the CB receptors, but it does influence the body’s natural cannabinoids to either block off or activate the receptors.
Evidence has shown that CBD can aid weight loss and help prevent metabolic disorders.
CB1 receptors in the body stimulate the appetite so using CBD may influence the body to shut off these receptors and help reduce the appetite for some people.
CBD also plays multiple roles in how it interacts with fat, helping to convert white or ‘bad’ fat into brown fat and stimulate the body to break down fats more easily.
The process of turning white fat cells into brown fat cells changes how these cells continue to act in the body. Brown fat cells burn off energy as heat, meaning you burn off calories much easier.
CBD can work to reduce our weight because it stimulates completely different elements in our bodies to assist the breakdown of extra fats. Also, it can help burn extra energy in the best way, right down to the mobile stage. It does this by decreasing your lipid manufacturing, suppressing urges for food and by increasing your metabolism.
CBD interacts with our ECS (Endocannabinoid System), which exists to regulate a variety of psychological and cognitive processes. Metabolism and weight loss are closely linked because your bodies’ metabolism is what converts your food into energy within the body. It is responsible for the bodies’ ability to burn energy and at the speed at what it does.

And now, as promised…
Hemp Seed Turkey Chunks
(4 servings )
Ingredients:
- 2 large Turkey breast fillet slices (cubed into 1-inch pieces)
- ¼ cup of Hemp Hearts (I used Good Hemp)
- ¼ cup of Sesame seeds
- A handful of fresh Rosemary (chopped very finely)
- Salt and pepper (for seasoning)
- Tablespoon of Hemp seed oil. (I used Good Hemp)
You will also need:
- A Ziplock bag
- A baking tray
- An airtight container (for storage)
Method:
- Preheat oven to 200o c.
- Prepare turkey.
- In a Ziploc bag put in hemp hearts, sesame seeds and rosemary and a pinch of salt and pepper and oil and add prepared turkey.
- Shake about until meat fully covered.
- Place evenly on a baking tray and cook for 20-25 mins, checking occasionally.
- Turn halfway through if you wish.
Serve with salad and sweet potato fries.
Or can be enjoyed cold with salad or in a gluten-free wrap.
I’ve also enjoyed before on top of a homemade ‘pizza’ so yummy!
These store well in an airtight container in the fridge for about 4-5 days, ensure reheat properly when reheating or like I say can be enjoyed cold once cooked.
Very versatile tasty protein source.
