What’s it like working in an Amsterdam coffeeshop?
Yes, it’s true! I work in an organic coffeshop now. And, spoiler alert, I love it. Why? That’s the next bit. First, let me tell you the story of how it all happened.
The Review
As you know I first visited la Tertulia back in December. If you haven’t read the review yet, here it goes. I was looking for a new bridge job at the time, ideally something more in line with my values, beliefs, and business. A coffeeshop would be a great start, I thought. I had thought that for a year, in fact, and never acted on it.
While working at my previous bridge job, I was told of an ‘organic coffeeshop’. It was the first time I heard of such a coffeeshop. I looked it up but failed to visit for a few months as my working hours and la Tertulia’s weren’t a great match. Finally, I offered a friend to meet me there for a catch-up…
The Courage
I remember pretty clearly how it all went down. I can even recall (or assume) what I told myself as we waited for our drinks: “this is my shot, this is my shot, this is my shot. Maybe it’s not, though. Ah, it’s ok if I don’t do it. This is so uncomfortable. Don’t do it. They probably don’t need anyone. Putain de merde speak up now or you will hate yourself, and so will future Amandine.”
I smile and ask: “Are you looking for staff?”. The guy at the counter smiles back and walks over to a blonde lady at the back, who told me they weren’t hiring right now but might be soon. This lady is my boss today. She gave me her email to keep in touch and I left wondering whether she meant what she said. But most importantly, I left feeling super proud of myself. I had done it, and no one had died. Not even my pride.
The Emails
We emailed over the holiday period and before I knew it I was working a few hours a week at la Tertulia.
The Family
I felt at ease there right away. The music, the plants, the crystals, the ladies (la Tertulia is a female-owned, female-ran business), the organic offering; everything there feels right. I have been welcomed with open arms and feel right at home. I’m so grateful for this development and how it unfolded so naturally (the universe!).
The Message
Much more than just a bridge job, I’ve been learning and sharing so much. It’s of course wonderful for me to learn about the different strains, the industry, and to get the opportunity to meet more cannabis women (and celebrities: Captain Hooter came in the other day, hellooooo!) and spread the cannabis lifestyle love further with quality herb and vegan drinks and edibles.
Much love, A.M.P x
Ps. In Amsterdam? Come say hello!
