I am a firm believer that our morning routine is a the best time to set the tone and intention for the entire day ahead. I love to start my day in a way that works for me, bringing me a clear mind and inspired soul.
Today I’m going to share with you 3 tips that will help you start your day on the right foot, as your most inspired self.
Tip 1: No snoozing, no losing.
My first tip is no snoozing. That means that when your alarm rings, you just get up. It sounds really tough, right ? It certainly was for me. You might not be used to doing this. I had to put this in place in my life in order to have a productive day.
Because the truth is, the very first actions of your day start a motion and contribute to how things will unfold as a result. The way to do that is not to force yourself or try more self-discipline because that’s just not going to work on the long term.
The key to changing such a habit is to change your environment. By tweaking things around you to support you and the person you are becoming, you are setting yourself for success by making it that much easier to sustain. For me that’s a special app called Alarmy (it’s free), which won’t stop ringing until I take a photo of my kettle. Trust me, it works.
Tip 2: NO Phone.
My tip number two is not to use the phone for the first hour of day. That means no looking at it, no scrolling, no checking messages/the news/FB/instagram/other. I know I mentioned that I’m using this special app to get my arse out of bed (and it works) – once I’ve done that I put my phone on charge and I won’t look at it again for at least an hour. This gives me so much space and mental clarity.
In fact, this habit alone has changed my life and transformed my days. Since implementing this about a year and a half ago it has completely changed my mindset, and consequently my business, for the better. Giving your brain the space to wake up properly before it has to deal with the insane amount of information available on our phones is key to start your day on the right foot and in the right mind.
Tip 3: pick a beverage you love
Finally, tip number three is to start the day with a beverage that you love. For me this used to be coffee. It’s not anymore. I’ve stopped caffeine for a while now and I’m only drinking coffee at the weekend, when it feels super special now and I really enjoy it.
